NURSING
The Associate Degree Nursing curriculum provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care to clients and
groups of clients throughout the life span in a variety of settings.
Courses will include content related to the nurse's role as provider of nursing
care, as manager of care, as member of the discipline of nursing, and as a
member of the interdisciplinary team. Graduates of this program are
eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN)
which is required for practice as a Registered Nurse. Employment opportunities
include hospitals, long term care facilities, clinics, physician's offices,
industry, and community agencies.
Pre-Nursing and Nursing Admissions Requirements:
| PHASE I – |
Application to Wake Technical Community College:
The following steps are required to be classified as a
Pre-Nursing student (working towards the Nursing program): |
| 1. |
Attend a MANDATORY Information Session for Nursing. Information sessions are held on the Health Science Campus. |
| 2. |
Complete an on-line Wake
Technical Community College application . |
| 3. |
Apply for Financial Aid and Veterans benefits. Students
applying for financial aid should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and
submit all supporting documents to ensure we can process
your request in time for the start of the semester. Be sure
to include the Wake Technical Community College school
code: 004844 |
| 4. |
Provide official transcripts (transcripts in a sealed envelope) of ALL previous
education, including high school and/or GED scores and all college transcripts
(if college has already been attended). Applications will NOT be processed until ALL transcripts have been
received. Applicants can send a "Request for High
School or Prior College Transcript" form to the schools they have
attended to have their transcripts sent to Wake Tech. FAXed or open
transcripts are not considered official and will not be accepted. High
school transcripts must be complete, showing the date of graduation. |

Take the COMPASS placement test. Schedule and prepare for your
placement test at the Testing Center website. Students can be exempted from placement testing if they meet certain requirements . |
| 6. |
Meet with a Health Sciences advisor once Steps 1 through 5 have been completed. |
| PHASE 2 – |
Application to the clinical Nursing (NUR) classes:The
following steps are required to apply to the NUR
classes.
Please note that entry into the NUR classes is a COMPETITIVE PROCESS and submitting an
application does not guarantee acceptance. |

Submit a separate application for the Associate
Degree Nursing Program (clinical). All the above
minimum requirements must have been met or the application
will not be reviewed for the pool. The nursing
application/pool deadline for the fall class is January 31,
and for the spring class is July 1. NOTE:
a new Nursing application must be
submitted for every deadline. |

Meet a chemistry
proficiency - chemistry proficiency may be satisfied by
completing ONE of the following: a college level basic
chemistry course from a U.S.
regionally accredited institution
with a minimum grade of “C” OR one
unit of a high school chemistry
course with a minimum grade of “C” OR CHM
090 (Chemistry concepts) or an
equivalent CHM 090 with a minimum
grade of “C” OR the self-taught chemistry Tutorial unit in the
Individualized Learning Center with
a minimum grade of “85”. |
| 3. |
Completion of TEAS
Testing – (Test of Essential Academic
Skills) – The HOBET is no longer being
offered after December 2009, but it will
be required for the Fall 2010 Nursing
class. Beginning February, 2010, we will
begin administering the TEAS test.
Details of the sections and scores that
will be required will not be available
until late fall of 2009; please check
the website for updated information. NOTE: The TEAS will be
required beginning with the Spring 2011
Nursing class and must be taken prior to
submitting your application for the
pool/clinical courses by the appropriate
deadline – January 31 for fall and July
1 for spring. |

Certified
Nursing Assistant 1 (CNA1) – The course
must be completed, your certification
must be current and you must be listed
on the North Carolina registry by the
Nursing application deadline. This
course is offered through the Continuing
Education Division of the College and
you are required to attend an
information session. To reserve a seat
for the session you can call
919-866-6100. The estimated total
expenses for this course will be $500 -
$550 (Please be aware that this will not
be covered by financial aid.)
NOTE: Effective Fall 2011,
you will be required to provide written
proof of having a 40 hour clinical with
direct patient care within the program
you received your NAI OR provide proof
of having at least 40 hours of work
experience also with direct patient
care, which must be within 5 years of
entering the Nursing program. Forms will
be attached to the nursing application
beginning fall 2011 for the verification
of the 40 hours of clinical or work
experience. |

Have a minimum GPA of
2.0 on coursework earned at Wake
Technical Community College. |
